In the U.S., people with serious mental health challenges die 25 years younger than the general population of chronic health conditions (diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, HIV and AIDS). These increased death and disease rates "are largely due to treatable medical conditions that are caused by modifiable risk factors" such as stigma/discrimination, poverty, and lack of coordination between primary care and mental health services [Medical Directors Council of the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, 2006].

We believe in supporting the whole person,  taking a holistic approach to wellness and providing options and choices for recovery.

Over the next 10 years, Alameda County’s 10X10 campaign will promote services, activities and policies, incorporating the 8 dimensions of wellness, that seek to increase the life expectancy of mental health consumers by 10 Years. HHREC coordinates and implements this project for Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services as part of their Mental Health Services Act funding.

GET FIT CAMPAIGN

Due to public health concerns with COVID-19 the HHREC office is closed.  However, the 45-day Get Fit program will transition into a Virtual Physical and Emotional Program. As Alameda County residents, we are experiencing unexpected changes in a circumstance that is stressful. Get Fit will teach you how to fight stress with healthy habits.

Participants must be able to log-in on-line to attend all Virtual Workshops. Get Fit is open to those wanting to increase their knowledge and awareness around weight reduction, healthy eating and movement. The program will meet virtually 60 minutes 3 days a week for 4-5 weeks. Peer Support is an important part of Get Fit.

Those that complete the program will receive a stipend of up to $200 and a certificate of completion. A maximum of seven applicants will beselected for this program. Once selected, participants must attend an orientation on line May 4th, 2020 from 1:00pm-2:30pm. Get Fit Alumni are encouraged to apply.

The Get Fit program will start May 4th-June 1st.  All interested participants need to complete and apply by April 30th.
